What is Asphalt or Tarmac?

Asphalt or more commonly known as Tarmac is made of crushed aggregates mixed with tar, which is laid whilst hot and in a semi liquid form  by either skilled rake men or on larger works by a paving machine to the desired thickness.
The asphalt is then compacted using vibrating rollers and compactor plates to leave a smooth finish.
Once cooled down the asphalt hardens and is ready for traffic!

Asphalt or tarmac is commonly used on roads, pavements, airport runways, carparks, yards and driveways due to being able to withstand large volumes of traffic, weight and heat which can cause other surfaces such as concrete to crack and fail.
Asphalt is also easy to maintain unlike block paving which needs regular weed killing, cleaning, re-sanding and sealing.

Residential Driveways & Paving

Polka Plant Hire Specialises in residential asphalt / tarmac driveways & paving. Using our highly skilled team of groundworkers and pavers we can make your driveway dreams come true!
We give you the choice of  finish including the asphalt stone size, drainage and the installation of concrete kerbs, block pavers or stone/granite setts to edge your drive.

Commercial, Industrial & Agricultural

Polka Plant Hire Ltd can undertake large commercial, Industrial & Agricultural  surfacing works due to having our own Bomag Asphalt Paving Machine, The machine can lay over 100 tons of asphalt in a single day, The laying widths can be adjusted from 1.8 - 3.2 metres in a single pass, this allows us to resurface roads, carparks and yards more efficiently whilst leaving a perfect finish every time!

Overlaying an Existing Surface

Overlaying is a cost effective way of improving the function and aesthetics of your surface,  an overlay is a single layer of asphalt which gets laid over an existing worn out but structurally solid driveway or surface, usually tarmac or concrete, effectively making the area 'as new'.
The advantages of overlaying is that it creates less waste, uses less materials and is generally quicker to complete thus reducing final costs to the customer.
